Production of Chinese Ship Engines Planned at Nakhodka Ship Repair Plant
Chinese engines for ships are set to be assembled at the Nakhodka Ship Repair Plant. This issue was discussed during a meeting with leaders of industrial enterprises from Primorye and China at the regional government on Tuesday, February 25.
According to the press service of the Primorye government, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Primorye Alexey Pikalov emphasized that the shipbuilding and ship repair industries in the region are among the most developed. He stated that local enterprises currently possess all the necessary competencies to organize the production of Chinese engines.
“The Far Eastern marine basin is rich in biological resources, which has led to the development of a significant fishing, auxiliary, and transport fleet. Currently, the Far Eastern branch of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping is reviewing over 10 400 engines, with more than 50 % of them being worn out. This creates the necessary conditions for cooperation with you on the replacement and servicing of engines for ships,” the deputy minister informed.
Project leader of JSC “NSRZ” Anatoly Smirnov noted that a meeting was held last year regarding the supply of ship engines from leading Chinese manufacturers.

“We agreed that the Chinese side could supply us with spare parts, including engines in parts. We have certain capacities and are ready to assemble engines at the plant. Now we need to determine the brands and models, as well as the required quantity. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has sent out requests to 100 ship repair and shipbuilding enterprises. After receiving the statistics, we can negotiate the models and quantities of engines to be supplied,” said Anatoly Smirnov.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Zichai, Go Liang, expressed interest in further cooperation.
“We are pleased that market research is already underway, and requests for the need for engines have been sent out. We will provide spare parts for the engines and ensure service maintenance. With the support of our partners, we are ready to establish a production or assembly facility for engines and localize production,” added Go Liang.
