Fincantieri and TUI Cruises Sign Contract for New InTUItion Class Cruise Liners
The Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri and TUI Cruises, a joint venture between TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, have announced a contract for the design and construction of two new cruise liners. This order replaces a memorandum of agreement signed in March 2025 for the Marella Cruises brand. The new ships, part of the InTUItion class, will be sister vessels to the Mein Schiff Relax and Mein Schiff Flow, with delivery scheduled for 2031 and 2032.
The new liners will have a gross tonnage of approximately 160 000 tons, making them larger than originally planned for Marella Cruises. They will be equipped with dual-fuel engines using LNG and marine gas oil, ensuring eco-friendliness. The ships will be built to the latest environmental standards, highlighting the companies’ commitment to sustainability.

The contract value exceeds the amount outlined in the initial agreement for Marella Cruises but remains within the financial threshold announced on March 31, 2025. The deal is subject to financing and other standard conditions, a common practice in the shipbuilding industry.
Fincantieri’s CEO Pierroberto Folgiero emphasized that the agreement strengthens the partnership with TUI Cruises and Royal Caribbean, built on years of trust and successful collaboration. The project underscores Fincantieri’s ability to support the fleet growth of leading cruise operators, blending innovation, sustainability, and Italian shipbuilding expertise.
