Gaz-System Reports Nearly Quadrupled Demand for FSRU in Gdańsk

Gaz-System has completed a market survey regarding the increase of capacity at the FSRU terminal in Gdańsk. The results indicate that the reported demand for the years 2031-2032 nearly quadruples the planned capacity of the second FSRU unit, which would be capable of regasifying 4,5 billion cubic meters of gas annually.

The survey involved 14 domestic and foreign companies. Almost half of the regasified LNG is expected to be exported to Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania, with estimated export volumes ranging from 6,9 to 8,9 billion cubic meters, potentially dropping to around 2,6 billion cubic meters per year in the coming decades.

“The results of this non-binding survey confirm the growing role of LNG in diversifying supply sources and meeting gas market needs in Poland and the Central-Eastern European region. It signals further dialogue with the market regarding the development of regasification capabilities at the LNG terminal in Gdańsk. Therefore, we are preparing to conduct a binding Open Season procedure, which we plan for the first quarter of 2026,” stated Gaz-System CEO Sławomir Hinc.

The survey took place from September 1 to 30, 2025, allowing participants to express interest in reserving regasification services that will arise once the FSRU terminal is operational. They could also specify if they plan to re-export gas through connections with Lithuania, Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Germany. Market participants were asked to indicate terms and conditions to help prepare the upcoming binding Open Season procedure.

Most participants showed interest in long-term use of regasification services from 2028 to 2048, with many pointing to the early 2030s as a key moment for starting LNG supplies. Furthermore, potential users had the opportunity to indicate their preferred service model. The vast majority chose a bundled service, which includes loading, unloading, and the regasification process with the possibility of sharing the allocated contractual capacity among users based on agreements made within one or across different slots throughout the year.

The declarations from market participants provide a basis for conducting a binding Open Season procedure for the second FSRU terminal. Gaz-System is currently consulting with companies that have expressed preliminary interest and is working on preparing an optimal service delivery model that takes market suggestions into account.

The aim of the FSRU 2 Open Season procedure is to confirm real demand by collecting binding orders for regasification services, with the procedure expected to launch in the first quarter of 2026.

Gaz-System is responsible for the transmission of natural gas and the management of key gas pipelines in Poland.
