Goa saw a significant 40 % increase in cruise passenger arrivals during the 2023-24 financial year. To build on this growth, the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) plans to expand and develop a new International and Domestic Cruise Terminal, set to be completed by March 2025.
The new terminal aims to enhance passenger convenience, improve the cruise experience, and stimulate the local economy while promoting sustainable practices.
At a Maritime States Development Council meeting held on September 12-13 in Goa, officials highlighted that the rise in global cruise traffic has led to more cruise ship arrivals at Mormugao Port, indicating further growth potential.
During the fiscal year 2023-24, cruise vessel calls increased by 15 %, and cruise passenger numbers jumped by 40 % compared to the previous year. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, visited the site of the new terminal and emphasized that it will boost tourism and attract more cruise travelers.
