Wärtsilä Signs Ten-Year Lifecycle Agreement with OPearl LNG Ship Management for 14 LNG Carriers

Wärtsilä, a technology group, has entered into a ten-year Lifecycle Agreement with OPearl LNG Ship Management, based in Hong Kong, covering 14 LNG Carrier vessels. This agreement aims to maximize the operational reliability of the vessels by allowing flexible maintenance scheduling and optimizing time between overhauls (TBO). The deal was recorded by Wärtsilä in the third quarter of 2025.

As global demand for LNG increases, timely deliveries become crucial. The support agreement is expected to help OPearl’s LNG Carrier vessels maintain high operational reliability. Captain Nomura, General Manager of OPearl LNG Ship Management, emphasized the need for minimal downtime and reduced maintenance interruptions to meet tight delivery schedules. He expressed appreciation for Wärtsilä’s innovative approach and commitment to enhancing efficiency and sustainability within their fleet.

The agreement includes Wärtsilä’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning solution, which offers flexible maintenance scheduling, extended maintenance intervals, 24/7 remote operational support, and contract management. Additionally, it features Expert Insight, a predictive maintenance solution that utilizes real-time vessel data to identify potential issues and optimize operations. This AI-driven approach allows OPearl to proactively address emerging problems, reducing unexpected downtime and ensuring smoother operations, aligning with OPearl’s “Creativity” aspect of their 4C policy.

Andrea Morgante, Vice President of Performance Services at Wärtsilä Marine, noted the increasing complexity of the maritime industry, which necessitates advanced technology and real-time data to maintain efficient operations while adhering to decarbonization goals. The Lifecycle Agreements are tailored to meet these challenges and are essential for their clients’ operations.

The 14 vessels included in this agreement are set to be delivered between the third quarter of 2025 and the second quarter of 2027. Each vessel will be equipped with two 6-cylinder and two 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines, along with four Wärtsilä Gas Valve Units (GVU). OPearl LNG Ship Management was established in December 2023 as a joint venture between China Merchant LNG, CNOOC, and NYK to manage the ships for all three shareholders.
