Lugs – Definition and Pronunciation
What is Lugs?
Lugs is the plastic or metal fittings attached to the luff or foot of a sail, which secure the sail to the mast or boom by sliding in a groove or on a track.
Examples of Lugs
On a survey you should be looking for any elongation of the holes in lugs where halyard shackles are attached, or in the eyes that may also act as an attachment. Halyard attachments are often slack when the halyard is not in use, which can lead to wear in the holes or in the nip of the fitting.

Check bearings and wheel lugs. Look for any looseness or «play» in the trailer tires, or evidence of failed grease seals, such as oil weeping from the hubs. Correct any problems before driving under a load.
