United States Coast Guard (USCG) – Definition and Pronunciation

[juː ɛs siː dʒiː]

What is USCG?

The USCG (United States Coast Guard) is a branch of the US Armed Forces responsible for ensuring maritime safety, security, and environmental protection. It conducts search and rescue operations, enforces maritime laws, and provides support during natural disasters and emergencies.

Examples of USCG

This is already a USCG requirement. It is of the utmost importance that this requirement is complied with as early as at design stage. Otherwise the ship will be not allowed to call US ports.

From “The ABS and USCG Additional Rules and Guides”.

Port Directory and Survey – ABS contacted and visited ports in North America to collect details from stakeholders, Port Authorities, Harbor Safety Committees, regulators (including USCG) and other vested parties interested in LNG and LNG bunkering at their respective port.

From “LNG Bunkering Guidelines: Comprehensive Insights and Best Practices for Operators”.

Although the approval process may differ worldwide, some may use published standards as the basis. For example, USCG Policy Letter 01-15 dated 19 February 2015, Guidelines for Liquefied Natural Gas Fuel Transfer Operations and Training of Personnel on Vessels Using Natural Gas as Fuel, states that a formal operations risk assessment may be conducted to help determine whether the SIMOPS may be conducted safely.

From “LNG Bunkering: Technical and Operational Advisory”.
