What is AMVER?

AMVER (Automated Mutual-assistance Vessel Rescue system) is a vessel position-reporting system operated by the United States Coast Guard for any merchant vessel of 1 000 grt or more on a voyage lasting longert han 24 hours, to and from anywhere on the world.
