Perigee – Definition and Pronunciation
[ˈpɛrɪdʒi]
What is Perigee?
Perigee is the point in a satellite orbit (especially for highly-elliptical ones) which is closest to the earth.
Examples of Perigee
HEOs typically have a perigee (point in each orbit that is closest to the earth) at about 500 km above the surface of the earth and an apogee (the point in its orbit that is farthest from the earth) as high as 50 000 km.

The SMA is reduced by firing east. This imparts a negative delta-V. Doing so at perigee yields a negative delta-eccentricity, which also reduces its daily longitude excursions.
