Vessel Particulars Questionnaire (VPQ) – Definition and Pronunciation

[viː piː kjuː]

What is VPQ?

VPQ (Vessel Particulars Questionnaire) is a part of the OCIMF SIRE inspection programme and is the means for vessel operators to submit the physical details of their ship through specially designed software.

Examples of VPQ

The ship’s VPQ is used to provide a number of organisations with accurate and up-to-date information regarding the ship and her certification. It is held on the SIRE system, for reference by participating companies.

From “Liquefied Natural Gas Commercial Considerations”.

For the ship, this information can usually be found in the following documents: vessel general arrangement, mooring arrangements and certificates, VPQ, trim and stability book.

From “Ship/shore interface for safe loading and unloading of LNG/LPG”.

The pressure testing, which is reasonably easy to implement on an oil tanker, is a pollution protection measure aimed at minimising the leakage of MARPOL Annex I cargoes and is a requirement in the ship inspection report (SIRE) and the vessel particulars questionnaire (VPQ) for oil tankers, but not for gas carriers.

From “Cargo equipment for gas carriers carrying LNG/LPG”.
