Freighter Sinks at Dakar Port After Collision with Bulker Zografia
Last week, a freighter sank at the pier in Dakar, Senegal, after being struck by an incoming bulker named Zografia, according to local port authorities. The Zografia is reported to be a Greek-owned vessel that previously survived a missile attack from Houthi forces in January.
The incident occurred around 8:30 PM GMT on October 15, as the Zografia was approaching the inner harbor of Dakar. Under circumstances that are still being investigated, the Zografia collided with the moored vessel Princesse Jessica at Pier 2, causing the latter to capsize and sink.

The Port Autonome de Dakar released a statement assuring that there were no casualties and that such accidents can happen in any port. They emphasized that port activities continue normally and expressed confidence that the Princesse Jessica would be refloated soon.
“The Port Autonome de Dakar has a robust operational system and is working closely with the relevant administrations to respond effectively and minimize the impacts,” the agency stated.
The Zografia had previously endured a significant incident earlier this year when it was hit by a Houthi ballistic missile while passing through the Red Sea on January 16. The missile struck the vessel’s number two hold from above and exited through the hull below the waterline. Fortunately, the ship was in ballast condition, and there were no injuries reported. The bulker was able to continue to the Suez Shipyard for repairs.
