HD Hyundai and H-Line Shipping Develop AI-Powered Ships of the Future
HD Hyundai and H-Line Shipping have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaboratively develop AI-based autonomous and eco-friendly ship technologies. The initiative focuses on enhancing efficiency, safety, and sustainability in shipping through AI integration in navigation, engine automation, route optimization, and cargo management.
The agreement, signed on July 28, 2025, at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Centre in Pangyo, involves HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), HD Hyundai Marine Solution, Avikus, and H-Line Shipping. It will leverage Avikus HiNAS autonomous navigation system, HD Hyundai Marine Solution’s OceanWise routing solution, and HD KSOE’s AI-CHS cargo management system. HD Hyundai will oversee technology integration, while H-Line Shipping will provide an LNG carrier for sea trials.

The partnership aims to reduce fuel consumption and operational costs, improve vessel safety and longevity, and comply with International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental regulations. H-Line Shipping COO Ho-Dong Seo highlighted the importance of AI-driven route optimization for competitiveness, while HD KSOE CTO Kwang-Pil Chang called it a milestone for eco-friendly ship innovation.
Additionally, HD Hyundai recently partnered with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in India for shipbuilding collaboration, focusing on design, technical support, and workforce training.
