Spear AI: Pioneering AI for Maritime Intelligence and Security

Spear AI, a developer of maritime artificial intelligence solutions, has secured seed funding from Scare the Bear Capital and Cortical Ventures. The investment will support the expansion of Spear AI’s product portfolio, including scaling its Horizon platform and enhancing maritime sensor capabilities. Additionally, the funds will bolster the company’s technical services and expertise in applied data and AI.

Spear AI provides an integrated suite of solutions combining advanced software, modular sensors, and engineering expertise. Its Horizon platform is designed for managing and labeling acoustic data for AI development. The company also offers expert technical and subject matter support for designing, implementing, and operating AI pipelines and data infrastructures.

CEO and co-founder Michael Hunter stated that the investment validates Spear AI’s vision of transforming maritime data into actionable intelligence. The support from investors will accelerate delivery to defense and commercial partners. Spear AI’s team, consisting of machine learning engineers, data engineers, software developers, cloud architects, and operational experts, is recognized for creating advanced MLOps pipelines, reinforcement learning platforms, and decision-support tools critical to national security.

Co-founder, executive chairman, and CTO John McGunnigle emphasized the mission to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI and real-world maritime needs. The funding will enable the growth of technical and engineering teams to help partners operate faster, safer, and smarter. Currently working with the US Department of Defense and US Navy, Spear AI aims to expand into the commercial sector and pursue international opportunities.
