Houthi militants in Yemen, aligned with Iran, claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli cities Tel Aviv and Ashkelon, as well as three US destroyers in the Red Sea. These attacks were carried out in support of Gaza and Lebanon, where Israeli forces are engaged in conflicts.
The Israeli army intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, triggering alarms in central Israel. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Sarea declared that their operations would continue until Israel stops its offensives in Gaza and Lebanon.
In a televised statement, Sarea announced a ballistic missile was fired at Tel Aviv, and a drone was sent toward Ashkelon. He warned of further attacks in solidarity with Palestinians and Lebanese allies. The Houthis also targeted US Navy destroyers with 23 missiles and a drone, but the US Navy intercepted them without damage.
The broader conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, Iran-backed fighters in Lebanon, has intensified, with Israeli strikes reportedly killing over 600 people in Lebanon. Hezbollah has been launching rockets into Israel, in support of Hamas, the Palestinian militant group in Gaza. The ongoing war has resulted in the deaths of over 41 000 Palestinians, following a Hamas attack on Israel that left 1 200 dead and over 250 taken hostage.
