PIL Unveils KOTA EAGLE and KOTA EMERALD: Its First LNG-Powered Vessels
On October 15, Pacific International Lines (PIL) held a naming ceremony for its two newest vessels at Jiangnan Shipyard in China, officially naming them the KOTA EAGLE and KOTA EMERALD. These ships are notable for being the first in PIL’s fleet powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and are also the largest in the fleet, boasting a capacity of 14 000 TEU, a length of 335 meters, and a width of 51 meters.
Equipped with GTT’s Mark III LNG containment system, these vessels are designed for enhanced operational efficiency and sustainability. Additionally, they incorporate other eco-friendly technologies, such as optimized hull forms and specialized hull coatings to reduce environmental impact.

The KOTA EAGLE and KOTA EMERALD are set to operate on the West Coast Central and South America Service 2 route, connecting the Far East with Latin America.
PIL has plans for further expansion, with 11 more vessels on order for delivery in the coming years, including two additional 14 000 TEU vessels, five 13 000 TEU vessels, and four 8 000 TEU vessels. All new vessels will be LNG dual-fuel operated, aligning with PIL’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
