Joint Naval Exercises Between Russia and Indonesia: Enhancing Maritime Security in the Java Sea
Russian and Indonesian ships conducted joint naval exercises in the Java Sea, focusing on scenarios such as freeing a vessel captured by terrorists and engaging unmanned boats, according to Russia’s RIA state news agency. The exercises, which began last week, coincide with the inauguration of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who has expressed a desire to strengthen defense ties with Russia as part of Indonesia’s longstanding non-aligned foreign policy.

During the drills, the crews practiced maneuvering, communication, and inspecting suspicious vessels. Additionally, they trained to counter unmanned boats using automatic artillery and small arms, with deck helicopters involved in joint operations.
The Russian contingent included the corvettes Gromkiy, Rezkiy, and Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov, along with the medium sea tanker Pechenga. The Indonesian side was represented by the frigate I Gusti Ngurah Rai and the corvette Frans Kaisiepo.
