Princess Cruises celebrated the float-out of the 178 000 gross ton Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) powered cruise ship “Star Princess” at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone Shipyard on September 26. This ship is the second dual-fuel cruise vessel in the Princess Cruises fleet, following the delivery of its sister ship, SUN PRINCESS, which was delivered earlier this year on February 14.
Scheduled for delivery in 2025, Star Princess can accommodate 4 300 passengers and is primarily designed to operate on LNG, recognized as the most effective and sustainable fuel technology in the maritime industry. Utilizing LNG significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and nearly eliminates harmful airborne pollutants.
Several other cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, AIDA, Carnival Cruise Line, and Disney Cruise Line, also feature LNG-powered cruise ships in their fleets.
