Ascenz Marorka Enhances LD Armateurs’ RoRo Fleet with Voyage Optimisation Technology

Ascenz Marorka, a smart shipping subsidiary of the GTT Group, has entered into a significant contract with LD Armateurs (LDA) to deploy its advanced Voyage Optimisation solution across a fleet of four roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessels. This initiative includes three new ships currently under construction and the operational vessel Ville de Bordeaux, marking a key step in enhancing maritime efficiency. The Voyage Optimisation technology, specifically tailored for wind-powered vessels, is designed to maximize the performance of LDA’s wind propulsion systems, a critical factor in modern eco-friendly shipping.

The solution offers LDA access to Ascenz Marorka’s Real-Time Fleet Performance Monitoring Centres, where a team of experienced mariners provides continuous oversight of vessel performance and safety. This real-time monitoring capability ensures that any potential issues are addressed promptly, maintaining high operational standards. LDA selected this technology for its ability to seamlessly integrate wind propulsion systems into the vessel’s digital twin, leveraging detailed sail performance data through polar curves, alongside precise weather forecasting and an intuitive user interface. These features align perfectly with LDA’s strategic goals of achieving operational excellence, fostering innovation, and advancing decarbonisation efforts in the maritime industry.

Samira Draoua, CEO of LDA, emphasized the importance of this decision, stating that choosing the right routing software is pivotal for the company. She highlighted that the technology enables LDA to fully harness wind propulsion, directly contributing to a reduction in CO₂ emissions and delivering the decarbonised services that clients increasingly demand. Draoua also expressed her appreciation for the collaborative efforts with Ascenz Marorka and the broader GTT Group in bringing this sophisticated solution to fruition.

The partnership is built on the success of a year-long trial that began with onshore testing in April 2024. This trial phase paved the way for the gradual implementation of the solution on the Ville de Bordeaux in early 2025. The vessel served as a testing platform for transatlantic routes, where the accuracy of the digital twin and the usability of the system for crew members were thoroughly validated. This successful testing period has instilled confidence in the technology’s reliability and effectiveness.

Philippe Berterottiere, Chairman and CEO of GTT, expressed pride in supporting the digital transformation of LDA’s fleet through Ascenz Marorka’s Voyage Optimisation solution. He noted that integrating wind propulsion systems into an advanced digital platform showcases the transformative power of cutting-edge technologies. This collaboration not only boosts operational performance but also accelerates the decarbonisation of maritime transport, aligning with global sustainability goals. Additionally, Ascenz Marorka’s track record includes a 2022 contract with a major European ferry operator to implement its Smart Bunkering solution on two vessels, further demonstrating its expertise in innovative maritime technologies.
