Mast is a vertical spar from which sails, or other spars carrying sails, are hung.
Examples of Mast
The Telstar 28 includes a patented mast raising/lowering system that lets a single person lower the mast on the water. Like the earlier boats, it’s built by a small family-run business directly on the waterfront, which is becoming a very rare thing these days. More than sixty of the new Telstar 28s have been built so far.

THE DECK AND superstructure of a sailboat is a high stress area of the boat; on sailboats, the mast, winches, stanchions supporting the rails are all attached to the deck, and all of these can generate heavy local loads.
