Bridge Deck – Definition and Pronunciation
What is Bridge Deck?
Bridge deck is a raised deck immediately aft of the main companionway, often incorporated into the cockpit as a seat. A bridge deck strengthens the construction of the cockpit, increases interior space, and reduces the exposure of the boat to flooding through the companionway.
Examples of Bridge Deck
On a motorboat you may find some movement in the large panel areas of the flybridge deck or the superstructure top. These can be quite large unsupported areas because the designers want a clear space below, but the structure also has to be rigid enough to support the large areas of glass that are often incorporated into the superstructure side panel.

The pilot cabin is located on the bridge deck on many vessels but if the vessel is exposed to an increased level of risk to UAV attack, it will be advisable to keep this cabin vacant. Anyone accommodated in this cabin is to be considered an additional person on the bridge deck.
